High Life

I was such a nervous wreck packing all our things
For that all night drive
We didn't know what time we'd arrive
Or what that 40 dollar hotel would be like

I was trying not to break down cause I had no money
You were paying for everything
You said it was fine but I didn't believe you

Driving around at 4pm
I'm stuck in all this traffic
I'm so damn tired trying to pick up these drinks
At least I knew when I got back that we'd be moving right in sync
I'm trying not to fall asleep
I'm too afraid to blink
I'm scared we'll sink
Into all these stupid selfish thoughts I always seem to think
But your smile's always lighting up this cheap hotel room
I hope to God you love it here as much as me but once again

I already miss driving up the freeway
Counting those same billboards
But I can't figure out why there's one on every street and every corner
As we got closer to the coast I could feel the air getting warmer
I couldn't wait to fall asleep on Myrtle Beach right beside her

We talked about religion
Did anything we had to do to pass the time
But we were so damn busy just getting lost in each other's eyes
I don't know where we lost ourselves from that moment in time
Constantly trying to make that climb to get back to where we were
We can't get back to where we were...
